NovelEngine is fundamentally architected as a local-first, offline-first desktop application. All novel projects, character lorebooks, scene outlines, embeddings, and snapshots are stored solely on your local device. We do not transmit, sync, copy, or inspect your manuscript content.
By default, NovelEngine is designed to run local models (embedded GGUF, Ollama, LM Studio). In local mode, all inference is performed 100% on your device, and your narrative text is never transmitted over the internet or used for AI training. If you choose to configure an optional cloud AI provider (such as Google Gemini) using your personal API key, only the explicit prompt context needed for that specific generation is transmitted directly to that provider under their respective API privacy terms.
When you purchase NovelEngine, your billing details and email are processed by our merchant partner, Lemon Squeezy, in accordance with their privacy policy. NovelEngine does not store credit card or payment credentials on its servers.
NovelEngine does not track your keystrokes, manuscript word counts, or usage analytics. We collect zero tracking telemetry from the desktop application.
